Artist Statement
My name is Kinga Gurba, I am a young, polish artist and photographer living in London. In my work I love abstract, meanings and feelings. I see my work as an attempt to utilize various color harmonies and surface textures to visually engage the audience. It is also a way for me to express my thoughts and all my ideas. I am trying to show people things the way I would want them to see; it is like sharing with them my vision of life simple things. The quality of my work is always tested and improved either on a photo shoot or on my camera, taking the same picture of an object till I get it right, but not always. For inspiration I am looking at artists like Jan Groover, Imogen Cunningham, Lorna Simpson and Stephen Gill and many more. My attempt is also to make small, boring, normal and simple life objects or places interesting and showing the beauty. I put an effort into using my art as political message. I like movements like analytical cubism, abstract expressionism and also like to mix the media and have more than just a photo.

Born in Philadelphia 1890, Paris in the 1920s and 1930s, and then moved to Hollywood in the 40s,died in Paris. He have travelled a lot but was stuck to Paris only.
Photograms
On our photography lesson our task was to make photograms, these are my first results:
Close Up
Those are pictures I took to present the close ups of contrast. You can see that there is loads of contrast with the natural forms. One picture presents the difference in colour, eg. green and red that are in the same place falling from the brick wall. On another picture you can see that the living plant is coming out from bricks, it is unusual as because a natural living form cannot grow from something humans has created.

Surfaces at school
My task was to make a response to Stephen Shore who was an American photographer who is well known for his 'American surfaces' series of pictures.
These are my very first photos taken with an Ipod. |
